The main square, Plaza Mayor, is the hub for most tourist attractions in this town, which is located within walking distance from the majority of Vera vacation homes and apartments. In the main square, you can see the magnificent church - Iglesia de la Encarnación, which was built in 1520 as a fortress to protect the town’s inhabitants from the frequent Moorish attacks. Later, it was transformed into a church. The Ethnographic and Archaeological Museum in the main square organizes many exhibitions on the history, tradition and folklore of Andalusia. Other places of interest in the town are the Convento de Nuestra Seňora, Hermitage de Nuestra Seňora de las Huertas, and bull-fighting ring, Plaza de Toros. Vera is also an excellent base to explore other attractions in Andalusia such as the fortress of Alcazaba in Almería and Marina Golf in Mojacar.
The water park, Parque Acuático, is extremely popular in the summertime and it offers a good selection of water shoots and slides. Enjoy a thrilling ride in the flumes or splash around in the crystal clear water of one of the swimming pools. In addition, there’s an amusement area for children where they can enjoy sliding, swimming and exciting games. Vera is well known for its vibrant markets where you can shop for traditional Spanish handicrafts, glassware, wood sculptures, fabrics, clothing, books, exquisite jewelry, and beautiful souvenirs.
Vera hosts a number of events and festival throughout the year. The city celebrates its famous Carnaval before the season of Lent around the end of February or the beginning of March. During Carnaval, the streets surrounding the various Vera vacation rentals come alive with the sights and sounds of the Grand Carnival Parade. People clad in colorful costumes stroll down the streets accompanied by elaborate floats singing and dancing to melodious traditional songs. Among other events, the town also celebrates many traditional feast days for popular saints, Easter and Christmas with full enthusiasm and vigor .
