Bunol's major landmark is the 13th century old castle that commands a spectacular vista of the mountain ranges, the lush green valley and the town. Standing in the heart of the main plaza is the magnificent Church of San Salvador, which also houses the town’s Archaeological Museum. Steeped in rich history, Bunol is embellished with more than 300 ornate fountains with names such as La Jarra and La Alegria, which grace the beautiful gardens and parks of the town. Take a visit to the famous Cueva Turche where you can admire the sparkling lake and a lovely waterfall that cascades down from the heights of cut rock, offering a comforting natural spectacle. Plunge into the refreshing water of the lake or just relax by listening to the melodic sound of the waterfall bubbling by. Moving along the Chico River will take you to the Cave of Palomas, which has many fresh water pools where you can take a cool dip and catch the soothing sunrays. Slightly higher is the Cave, which is known for its outstanding natural beauty. If you want to explore the surrounding areas of the town, plan a day excursion to Todolella , which is known for its medieval castle, that dates back to the 14th century.
One of the major attractions of Bunol is La Tomatina, a tomato-throwing melee that is celebrated on the last Wednesday of every August. Thousands of people gather at the main plaza and throw enormous piles of tomatoes at each other. La Tomatina, along with its tomato throwing, is a weeklong festival of music, food, drinking, and general partying. It is better to book one of the Bunol house rentals well in advance if you are planning to visit the town during this grand event.
