The lake’s southeast shore has Onaway State Park with sandy cobblestone beaches and forest trails. The park is ideal for swimming and picnicking and in winter hosts the annual Shivaree festival with thrilling snowmobiling races and limited ice fishing of the exotic lake sturgeon using fishing spears! A little further north is the Black Mountain Pathway which has miles of hiking and bike trails and makes for excellent cross-country skiing. The Ocqueoc Falls, east of Onaway, is a must visit as it is one of the largest in this area. Upper Michigan’s wildlife can be explored via Cheboygan’s lush woods. Log cabins in sandy waterfronts, cottage houses, chalets and other vacation rentals by the lakeside exist in plenty to enjoy the bounty of the lake and its surrounding.
Enjoy kayaking, boating over the scenic lake and cast a line for fish; walk the countryside in the vivid colors of autumn; cross-country ski in winters or simply relax and watch the beautiful sunset over the lake waters. Black Lake vacation rentals have all the answers for enjoying the many recreations or relaxing in the peaceful natural paradise of Black Lake.
