Casa Niveles (sleeps 2) is our much loved, quirky holiday home . It is a tiny, old Moorish cottage on several levels in the Barrio Bajo (the lower and oldest part of the village). We have tried to think of everything to make this into a comfortable "home from home". There are wooden beams, rustic terracotta floor tiles throughout with bright local rugs and masses of pictures, candles and bits and pieces. Above all it has stunning views from the terrace out over the Rio Santo Gorge.
Albunuelas (734m) is gloriously sited at the head of the Lecrin Valley. It is easy to see why the Moors called this "The Valley of Happiness", an extremely fertile area with abundant water sitting protected by the natural fortifications of the mountains that surround it. The village is set among citrus groves interspersed with olive and almond trees, the campos are full of pomegranates, chirimoya, nispero, avocados and vines.
The valley is one of the few places in the world where you can truly claim to ski in the morning and sit on the beach in the afternoon. The Costa Tropical is an easy 45 minutes drive south whilst equidistant to the north is historic Granada, offering excellent retail therapy as well as the magical Alhambra. The Sierra Nevada and it's ski resort is just under an hour away and Lanjaron, the western gateway to the beautiful Alpujarra is a mere 20 minute journey.
