Just a few miles north of historic and eclectic Asheville, North Carolina, The Black Bear Lodge, built in 1987, is the most recent addition and focal point of a comfortably rustic icon of Americana known as the Log Cabin Motor Court. Those 18 log cabins were built in the 1930s as an expanding highway system gave Americans a new freedom to roam and America cemented its love affair with the automobile.
But while the exterior of the Lodge, perched above the historic cabins nestled in the pines beneath, maintains the rustic feel of a bygone era, there’s nothing rustic about its interior, 1,900 square feet of warm and inviting wood. Step inside to a liberating and relaxing expanse of a combined great room, kitchen and dining areas, high ceilings and a large loft, ideal for groups of up to 10.
Step outside onto the wraparound deck, perfect for grilling underneath the pines or just sitting in a rocking chair and relaxing in the sun. On cooler days, cozy up to one of two fireplaces (one wood-burning with wood available on-site.)
The Black Bear Lodge is ideal for a romantic getaway, family gatherings, or, with rentals available in the Motor Court, as home base for larger gatherings such as weddings
Three bedrooms are on the second floor, including the loft area graced by a beautiful antique, queen, four-poster bed. A bedroom with king-sized bed and fireplace on the first floor and queen-sized sleeper sofas in the Great Room round out the sleeping accommodations, detailed below.
Located between U.S. 25 and U.S. 19-23, the Black Bear Lodge is a natural haven, but close to urban areas. In addition to historic Asheville, and its abundant shopping, dinning, arts, and entertainment, the world famous Grove Park Inn & Spa is less than 5 miles and the world famous Biltmore Estate, less than 8 miles.
