Dreaming of your own private island getaway? It's not only possible, but affordable. Access is easy. Park your car at Seabird's mainland base, board our 19' Boston Whaler, enjoy the 5 minute boat ride out to the Island and your "fantasy" begins. Seabird's beach home is archeticturally stunning, but that's not even the best part. Imagine the privacy of your own sandy beach with towering coconut palms, a chickie hut and hammocks. We've thought of everything....You're in control right down to the music you want to listen while relaxing on your own private beach.
If you're feeling too lazy, jump on the Hobie Cat and go out for a sail, or kayak around the Island. You can always go fishing, snorkeling, swimming, diving, boating or whatever water sport you feel up to. If you like more quiet exercise, take a walk down Seabird's sandy jungle trails exploding with exotic tropical flowering trees and plants. Yoga? Bird watcher? No better place than Seabird.
Capture the antics of the pelicans, herons, ibis, ospreys and other avian residents of the bird sanctuary which co-exist with you on the Island. Cook today's catch in our outdoor kitchen (yes, there is a kitchen inside as well) but it's so much more fun to cook outside and eat on the picnic table underneath the chickee. It's a great island experience. At the end of the day, toast the sunset from the Widow's Walk high above the treetops and recapture special moments in an unrushed, tranquil setting.
A weathered boardwalk takes you from the dock to the house. Beautifully crafted like a ship of tropical hardwoods, the house is built in the traditional Old Florida style. The expansive decks and porches are separated from the cathedral ceilings, spiral staircase and interesting nooks and crannies by screened cypress louvers that capture cool sea breezes. It's not an expansive home, but there are expansive porches and decks all around. The idea is to enjoy the outdoors.
Seabird is stocked with all the toys you need for a week on the water, including a 19', 90 h.p. runabout, Kayaks, 14'Hobie Cat, masks, fins, snorkels, questionable fishing gear (best to bring your own), and a towing tube to pull behind the boat. How high you can toss them before they fall off?
Bring your camera and swimsuit (or leave it at home) everything else is provided for you; from beach towels to board games. No amenity has been overlooked including a remarkable collection of island literature, an extensive library of Caribbean and classical music, a DVD collection (both for adults and children), an indoor/outdoor cassette/CD stereo as well as a satellite TV/VCR/DVD, snorkeling equipment, kayaks, sunfish, towing tube, jogging paths, hammocks, bikes and if you must......yes, wireless internet connection. Bring your laptop and "work" down by the sea. We don't charge extra for using our telephone and even long distance calls are free.
The maximum number of occupants is eight. There are two double bedrooms with private bathrooms on the main level, and four bunk beds in an upstairs sleeping loft, which has its own bath. There are also two outdoor showers. Don't worry, you'll quickly get into the Island living mode.
A five minute boat ride takes you into Marathon for fine dining, shopping or nightlife. Key West is an hour's drive. Seabird's Manager will greet you on arrival, and is on call just 15 minutes away.
A sophisticated solar energy system provides power for all electrical needs, including such amenities as ceiling fans, telephone, a microwave, and coffee bean grinder, but there is no air conditioning to distract from the appreciation of a coexistence with nature. The 20,000 gallon cistern collects fresh water and is decorated with shells, broken glass and coral rock imbedded in its sides....a work of art in itself! The hermit crabs love it!
