| |
Mendocino vacation rentals largely include cottages, vacation homes and bungalows with views of the spectacular Pacific Ocean to the gentle Redwood Forest. A favorite of lovers are the romantic Victorian style vacation cottages with their old-world charm.
Many of the vacation rentals in this quaint little village 150 miles north of San Francisco are as artistic as the community itself. Vacation rentals in this area usually accommodate five people or less—in some cases, just two. Rent rates range from $390 for two nights for two to $1127 for two nights for six. |

Must See in Mendocino |
| |
The Point Cabrillo Preserve, which includes the historic 1909 Light Station (30.5 acres) and approximately 270 acres of undeveloped coastal bluffs and prairie, is both a place of historical interest as well as, quaintly enough, a romantic place to get married.
Another attraction on the coast is the 1854-built Ford House. This historic home and visitor center was built for Mendocino's founder, Jerome Burley Ford and his wife, and is now a museum that exhibits works of local artists and those of Pomo Native Americans.
The Presbyterian Church in Mendocino village, built in 1868 of native Redwood milled, is a California Historical Landmark and the venue for many marriages.
The Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden is also called the Garden by the Sea. Formal gardens, fern-covered canyons, coastal pine forests, flower-filled bluffs, and over a hundred species of visiting bids make it irresistible. |

Honeymoon
The village is the ideal place to spend your honeymoon. There is much that a couple can do together here - stroll along the beach, explore the tide-pools, ride a carriage, get a massage, go on a wine tour, and more. You can also plan to get married there, with the waves as your witness, or in the lighthouse, and spend the first few days of your married life in a heavenly setting.
Canoeing
Paddling through the Big River estuary is quite a thrill, and you can rent a canoe or a kayak to do so.
Cycling
Rent a mountain bike and cycle along the coast, or head to the Redwood and Fern canyons. You can also explore the Van Damme or Russian Gulch state parks on a bike.
Hiking
Walking is the best way to explore Mendocino, and there are several back roads, abandoned logging roads, and trails for walking.
Ride the Skunk Train
The California Western Railroad's Skunk Train is a vintage steam or diesel locomotive that takes you deep into the Redwood forests, like it used to when Mendocino was still a logging town.
Whale Watching
A fascinating activity is to ride on a 50-foot boat to the Mendocino Coast and watch the whales migrate from land or sea, November to March. March is also when the Mendocino Whale festival happens.
