A must-visit place is the Garrett County Historical Museum of Oakland. It has a superb collection of old mining equipment, military uniforms, Native American artifacts, antique dolls and toys, and other wealth showcasing the rich local history and heritage. Also, worth visiting is the train station of Oakland that has been wonderfully restored. A very interesting place to visit is the Cove Run Farm Maze of Accident that organizes the Cove Run Farm Corn Maze where the visitors are asked to cover more than 4 acres of winding trails and passageways. They have to give the right answers to the questions that are posted throughout the maze. Do not miss the Thrasher Carriage Museum, which has a unique collection of horse driven vehicles from the 19th and 20th century. Some other major attractions that can be easily accessed from any of the Maryland Western vacation homes are Washington Monument State Park, Boonsborough Museum of History, Greenbrier State Park,Emmanuel Episcopal Church, etc.
The Oakland area has several beautiful shops selling stained glass items, iron patio furniture, decorative items, etc. The shops lining the Second and Alder streets are especially very popular with the tourists.
