Most of the time you can find Katerina or her parents here. They live in the ground floor of the building on this picture; it isn't really the ground floor, a lower part of the house is accessible via the stairs on the left.Three guest rooms are situated on the first floor of that same building. On the right side of the first and the second picture you can see the beginning of the path leading to the asphalt road. That path is fairly steep, partly in the form of stairs, partly on rocks, and unfortunately not suitable for handicapped persons. At the other side of the central terrace you can see a glimpse of the second building of Hostel Katerina, which houses most of the guest rooms. The stairs lead to the two apartments and one other room. Under the stairs you see the beginning of a corridor giving access to five other rooms. If you go up the stairs you reach the entrance to the apartments. Archontico K. Parisis is a three floor mansion built of stone in 1834 by a sponge merchant who, after making his fortune in Trieste came to Lafkos, bringing with him architectural elements unknown to the area. He built a fortified house with 16 embrasures and a hideout for himself, in a central location of the village, with beautiful views of the islands in the Pagasitikos Gulf. The Ministry of Culture have since declared it to be a protected building. The mansion's symmetrical facade is characterised by the heavy balcony on the top floor, the numerous large windows, the ornamental cast-ironwork and the garret windows of the ground floor. The interior has been renovated and converted with passion, love and a respect for tradition and aesthetics. Many features, including all of the original flooring and doors have been preserved. Archontico K. Parisis was renovated and transformed into a fabulous guesthouse offering traditional accommodation in 1998, by its present owners, Christos and Anna Theocharopoulou. There are ten double/triple rooms in the mansion and one suite with a fireplace. All of the rooms are spacious and bright, full of windows and some of them have a panoramic view over the Pagasitic Gulf. Wooden floors and ceilings, traditional furniture, handwoven fabrics and flokati rugs invoke the nostalgic atmosphere of the mansion. All rooms are equipped with TV, fridge, central heating, fans and most of them have air-conditioning. The other is the newly established Radio Museum where you can stroll through the history of radio, via its brilliant collection of radios from the 1920's until the 1960's. The recently renovated warehouse of the Agrarian Association also hosts periodical exhibitions of local, and other, artists. Footpaths for walking If you love nature then you will be delighted to find out that this area is full of stone-paved footpaths, called kalderimia, which were the old connections between villages. By walking the kalderimia you will discover countless hidden delights in this area full of unique and natural beauty. If though he loves hiking, there are many trails he can follow.The following are recommended:1. Agios Lavrentios - Drakeia:The walk to the neighbouring village of Drakeia is relatively short, as the hiker needs about 50 minutes to get there. The road to Drakeia is a rural track through a forest of beech, chestnut and plane trees.2. Agios Lavrentios - Hania:Either by following the track that links Agios Lavrentios to Hania, or accompanied by a guide who knows the old pathway, the visitor can walk up towards Hania, the peak of Pelion, reaching a height of 1,100 metres above sea level. The route requires the visitor to be in good physical condition and it does not exceed three hours. 3. Agios Lavrentios - Agios Vlasios - Agios Georgios:Following the pathway that used to link the three villages in the past, the visitor can enjoy an enchanting walk that does not exceed 2 ½ hours. 4. Agios Lavrentios - Kato Lehonia: The old pathway, unfortunately ruined in some parts, leads the visitor to the harbour of Agios Lavrentios, the coastal plain of Lehonia.
