| Amelia Island has hot, humid summers, and warm, sunny winters. The rainy season runs from May through October, with September being the wettest month of the year. Maximum temperatures in summer reach the high of 80° F, while minimum temperatures remain around 70° F. In winter, the maximum temperatures range between 40° F and 70° F. Though its mild climate makes it a year round destination, peak season for visiting Amelia Island is summer, beginning in March and continuing through September. Within this period, July, August and September see the maximum number of visitors. |

Getting To and Around Amelia Island |
Jacksonville International Airport, located about 16 miles southwest of Amelia, is the main access point for Amelia Island by air. The Whitehouse Nolf Airport is approximately 30 miles away, Towers Field is roughly 30 miles southwest of Amelia Island and Cecil Field is about 37 miles southwest of Amelia Island, if you need a smaller airport nearby.
Auto rentals are readily available and it is an advantage to have a car for seeing nearby places. If you choose to stay close to downtown though, most places and facilities are within walking or bicycling distance. The island does have public transport, though it has limited routes. |
