Housed in the 1878 Nassau County jail, this
award-winning local museum offers a 1-hour, 15-minute guided
tour of the newly remodeled ground floor. Only a photo
gallery is open for casual visit. The museum is open Monday
to Saturday, from 10 AM - 4 PM. The guided tours are
available Monday through Saturday at 11 AM and 2 PM. Entry
is free, but a donation to the museum is requested. Guided
tours are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
The
museum also offers excellent walking tours of historic
Centre Street on Thursdays and Fridays, from September to
June. Once a vibrant, Victorian seaport village, Fernandina
Beach boasts many original structures dating back to the
late 19th century. Some of the landmark buildings include
the Palace Saloon Dinner Theater, the Florida House Inn and
Fairbanks Folly, which are nestled in the 50 blocks of
Victorian homes and shops that make up the historic district
of Fernandina Beach. These tours depart at 3 PM from the
island’s Chamber of Commerce and cost $8 for adults and $3
for students. |
