    Skiing

Mt Bachelor sits on the national forest land featuring some great free cross country skiing and is considered to be a classic point in the Three Sisters area of Cascade Range. The regular sloping sides of the mountain make for a great skiing experience. The Deschutes National Forest has five cross country ski areas in the vicinity of Mount Bachelor. If you want to skirt the edge of the Three Sisters Wilderness Area, and maybe even head into it, the Three Creek Lake area to the north offers additional loops, including an expert loop out to the lake. For beginners there are intermediate trails around Bend like the Edison Butte, Skyliner, Swampy Lakes and Vista Butte, all lying within 10 to 15 miles of easy distance from each other.

    Fishing
The Deschutes River flows right through Bend, and is one of the most scenic rivers in America. Fly fishing for both trout and steelhead is popular, and outfitters in Bend utilize historic McKenzie style driftboats for getting to the most productive holes and eddies. Also close to Bend, the Metolius River is a very productive fishery that draws anglers from around the world. Other excellent fishing can be enjoyed on the Crooked River, and in the numerous high-mountain lakes reached from the Cascade Lakes Highway.

    Whitewater River Rafting

Experience the adrenaline rush as you skillfully navigate your raft through the wild rapids of the Deschutes River. Emerald waters, hot springs, old ranch sites from yester years, and one of the deepest canyons in the world, combine to form an unparalleled setting for a wilderness whitewater rafting journey through the Idaho Rocky Mountains. Deschutes Whitewater Services, Imperial River Company and Ouzel Outfitters are some of the companies providing a wide range of guided trips on the Deschutes River.

Besides the Deschutes River, you can also enjoy white water rafting trips on the McKenzie River and Rogue River.

    Hiking
In this paradise of outdoor activities, you will find innumerable hiking trails. Peter Skene Ogden National Recreational Trail is one such trail offering a kaleidoscope of scenic views on the way. The trail begins from Peter Skene Ogden Trailhead and runs parallel to Paulina Creek. The length of the trail is 9.5 miles and there is no fee at Peter Skene Ogden Trailhead. You will find numerous hiking trails following the river down into the Crooked River Canyon at the Smith Rock State Park. You would be required to pay for a State Park day-use fee. Within the city, you can take a hike along the River Deschutes in the lovely Sawyer Park, which is known for its numerous rock formations.

    Biking
Central Oregon is famous as a friendly two wheel region in North America, offering sweeping single-track descents and heart bursting road rides. A combination of cool, Ponderosa pine-scented mountain air, uncrowded roads and trails, and easy access right from the center of town make Bend a great place to ride. Bike rentals are available at the base lodge every day. The Deschutes National Forest has over a thousand miles of single and double track trails, and the Cascade Lakes Highway is a great favorite for racing type road riding. Cog Wild is one of the operators offering guided biking trips.

    Snow Mobiling
Deschutes national forest Offers 560 miles of groomed trails, with 175 miles maintained in the Bend district alone. Wanoga and Dutchman Flat Sno-Parks serve as great jumping off points and are close to Bend.
