Though Bend's main attractions are its natural pristine beauty and the ample opportunities it provides for the outdoor enthusiasts, however, Bend's attractions aren't just limited to that. From getting up and close to rare animals and birds to exploring the region's history to something as diverse as gazing at the stars and planets, Bend offers you a plethora of unique sights and things to do.

    The High Desert Museum

    Get a glimpse into this region’s natural and cultural history at the nationally acclaimed High Desert Museum. Travel back into time as the main building immerses you in its narration of the Western history. This museum houses the country’s largest collection of aboriginal artifacts from a single tribe. Discover living small and nearly extinct animals of the region such as pallid bats, kangaroo rats, collared lizards at the Desertarium. Come face-to-face with river otters, porcupines, mustangs, grey fox and birds of prey at the outdoor exhibits. The museum is open 9 AM to 5 PM daily, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. The general admission pass (age 13 – 64) is $12; for senior citizens (65+) $11; for children (5 – 12) $7 and the entrance is free for kids younger than 4. There is no fee charged for Wheelchair Rental, however a fee of $3 is levied for stroller rental.

     
    The Deschutes Historical Center
    The museum features a variety of exhibits ranging from pioneer items to prehistoric artifacts. If you are inclined towards learning more about this region and its history, the Deschutes Historical Center is perfect to begin your quest. It is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 AM to 4:30 PM. The museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays. You have the option of taking the annual membership for $50 or you can be a part of any event for $12. For high school and college students need to present their ID cards for free admission.
     
    Pine Mountain Observatory

    If you have spend nights star gazing and found it intriguing enough to know more about them then Pine Mountain Observatory is a good place to start. On an elevation of 6500 feet, the observatory is ideal for a glimpse into the neighboring stars and planets. Usually, the public visits commences from late May through September only on Friday and Saturday evenings. It is always advisable to call ahead for information on weather conditions before making the trip. It can get pretty chilly in the evenings, so don’t forget to carry warm clothes with you and try and avoid going on this trip with infants or babies. A donation of $3 per person is suggested.
