 Golfing in Bonita Springs

Golf is a year-round sport in Bonita Springs Florida. With close to 10 public courses, and just as many resort and private courses, Bonita Springs is a golfer’s paradise. Courses are available to suit any skill level. From May to October, golf courses are never crowded and some private courses allow public use.

A few of the local courses include the Bonita Springs, Old Corkscrew, Quail Village, Palmira and Raptor Bay Golf Clubs, as well as Miromar Lakes Beach and Golf Club.

 Bonita Springs Fairs and Festivals

Several events are organized and conducted by the Bonita Springs Historical Society to celebrate the history and culture of the city. Beginning in January and ending in April, local history lecture luncheons are held at various locations. The Walking Tour of Historic Bonita with a Picnic, the Mayor of Survey, 4th of July and the Historical Society Tea are a few of the events scheduled throughout the year.

The festivities in nearby Fort Myers invite you to soak in the city’s friendly ambience. The Edison Festival of Light is a three-week festival celebrating Thomas Edison. Held annually in January and February, the festival includes science and invention fairs, a sailing regatta, a 5 K run, block parties, orchid shows and much more. The American Sand Sculpting Festival is held annually during the first full weekend of November, so join in the fun.

 Dining and Nightlife in Bonita Springs

Whether you prefer quality fine dining, the relaxed atmosphere of a laid back beachfront restaurant or a sampling of a variety of national and international cuisines, Bonita Springs has a wide selection of restaurants that will satisfy any taste. The Promenade has some excellent restaurants in a beautiful setting where you can find something for everyone. All restaurants overlook the garden where community events and small concerts are held. Close by, Fort Myers and Naples are loaded with upscale fine dining establishments.

Lounges and nightclubs will keep the night alive, too. Or, pay a visit to the movie theaters, a performing arts hall or the nearby state university for more nighttime entertainment. Friday Jazz Jams by Sir John Jeffery are held at Promenade at Bonita Bay on last Friday of each month. Sir John plays his vibes with a driving ferocity in the tradition of the late Lionel Hampton. The event is held from 6 PM - 8 PM and admission is free of charge.

 Shopping in Bonita Springs

Bonita Springs and the surrounding areas offer several shopping centers for you to browse. Visit The Promenade, an upscale shopping and dining palazzo, with an art gallery, casual shops and ice-cream parlors. Another option in nearby Naples is The Village on Venetian Bay, a collection of almost 60 shops, galleries and restaurants that allow you a comfortable, yet fashionable shopping experience in the area’s trendiest shops and nouveau bistros, set against moss-draped trees and waterways complete the Old and New Florida atmosphere.

At the other end of the spectrum is the Flamingo Island Flea Market. Your treasure hunt here could lead you to articles used by the early settlers—maybe those by Edison and Ford too! There are also paintings and sculptures by locals to be picked up.

Bonita Springs is blessed with the moderate subtropical climate of the Florida coastline. Temperature highs range from the mid-70ºs in January and February to the low-90ºs during the summer months. Most of the region’s rainfall occurs from June to September when you can expect higher levels of humidity and rain showers.

Fall and winter are the best times to visit the Florida beaches. Summers may have rainy afternoons, but the moderate temperatures along the Florida coast make this season ideal for family fun and deals. Fall is the season for the nature lovers who will have plenty to marvel at, in these wetlands.

 Getting To and Around Bonita Springs

There are several airports in the area in and around Cape Canaveral. The closest is the Space Coast Regional Airport, only 14 miles away. The Melbourne International Airport is located approximately 19 miles to the south, the Orlando International Airport is located roughly 43 miles to the west and the Orlando/Sanford Airport is located about 46 miles northwest of Cape Canaveral. There are other airports nearby, as well. Once there, only limited public transit is available in the Space Coast area, so you will most likely be more comfortable traveling by car.
