10 miles from Cape San Blas is St. Joseph’s Bay Country Club that offers an 18-hole championship level golf course. The course is scenically situated, off St. Joseph’s Bay. The lush green slopes and well-placed hazards add to the beauty of this golf club. Built in 1969 by architect Bill Amick, this semi-private golf course is open for visitors and members all year around. Weekday and weekend fees are the same ($49, but subject to change). Rental carts are included in the fees.

In the vicinity are Tallahassee and Panama City, both of which have a number of popular golf clubs with state-of-the-art facilities and well-maintained championship golf courses.

A number of birding events are held all year around in Cape San Blas. The Scallop Festival is famous to Cape San Blas along with several fishing tournaments. You just have to be here at the right time to enjoy all the festivals and events, be it fishing, birding or scalloping.

Nightlife is livelier in Apalachicola or Panama City than in Cape San Blas. There is a bar also out here Indian Pass Raw Bar. A few nightclubs might be found in Apalachicola but Cape San Blas is not your town, if you are looking for pulsating nightlife.

 Shopping in Cape San Blas

Cape San Blas is a small beach community where you will not find high-rise buildings or shopping malls. The numbers of shops in this town are few, so you will have to drive down to the neighboring town of Apalachicola, a close 25-minute drive away. The Apalachicola Antique Mall is where you can shop for antiques and vintage collectibles special only to Florida. A bookshop and a unique furnishing shop can also be found here. Mexico Beach, also 25 minutes away from Cape San Blas, is a haven for art lovers and antique collectors. Shell jewelry and resort wear are common in the shops of this area. There are a couple of boutiques that sell women’s wear and swimsuits. Don’t worry if you have forgotten any of your beachwear or accessories because you will find plenty of shops to satisfy your demand.

 Best Times to Visit Cape San Blas

Cape San Blas is surrounded by the Gulf of Mexico on one side, making the town and its neighboring regions cooler than other parts of the state of Florida in the winter. Due to wind factors, Cape San Blas experiences a cool winter from the month of November to March with a low of 62° F. The summers are hot and humid, with plenty of showers and thunderstorm. Ideally, the rainy season starts from May and extends up to September. However, the showers are not confined to these months. Hurricanes are frequent in this region, often during the rainy season.

The town welcomes tourists all the year around but the best time is admittedly from May to September. During these months, the scalloping harvests are at their peak and several scallops and fishing festivals are organized in the town. However, unexpected rain does arrive as a dampener to outdoor activities and the humidity might lower your spirit if you aren’t prepared for it. If this bothers you, then you are the kind of visitor who is going to enjoy Cape San Blas post – September.

 Getting To and Around Cape San Blas

If traveling by air, Apalachicola Municipal Airport (20 miles) and Panama City Bay County International Airport are the nearest airports to Cape San Blas. Port St. Joe is around 42 miles from here. Panama City Airport in serviced by Delta, Chautauqua Airlines, Northwest Airlink and US Airways. These flights connect many major cities in the US.

Car rental from the airport to Cape San Blas is convenient. Once you are in town, you can rent a vehicle for visiting the nearby areas. Within Cape San Blas you won’t need a car since the best way to explore this delightful town is by foot or on a bike. The biking and hiking trails are not congested, offer wonderful views of the sand dunes along with the aqua-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Bike rentals are hassle-free and affordable.

If you are planning to drive into Cape San Blas, take the US-98 that connects Apalchicola and Cape San Blas. When you plan to visit choose the mode of transportation, keeping the weather in mind. A strong hurricane and rainy season may rule out certain types of transport altogether.
