    This beautiful town is surrounded by some of the most striking and diverse landscape that includes mountains, woodlands and beaches. All these diverse terrain offers innumerable opportunities to those who wish to examine nature’s bounty from close quarters through nature walks and hiking. North Carlsbad State Beach has a paved walking path along Carlsbad Boulevard overlooking the beach. At the sound end of the walking path, you will come across the Aqua Hedionda Lagoon, a 400-acre tidal estuary with freshwater and saltwater marshes. This trail is approximately 1.5miles. Hikers can also tromp the 3miles long North Shore Trail that follows the northern shoreline of the Batiquitos Lagoon and heads east to the inland end of the lagoon.
     
    Water Sports
    If you like water sports, Snug Harbor Marina is a fun place to rent water-skiing boats, wave runners, canoes and kayaks. Aqua Hedionda Lagoon is perfect for kayaking and especially if you decide to take a trip at high tide. During the course of your trip you are likely to see snowy egrets, blue herons, skimmers, terns, coots, great egrets and other species of birds.The Oceanside Harbor is also a great spot for kayaking where you might just be welcomed by sealions and dolphins or come across exotic caves and amazing underwater life at the LaJolla Shores where you are sure to spot schools of colorful fish and sea lions. Some of the best spots for surfing are Tamarack, Warm Water Jetty and Terramar. Other activities that you can enjoy the gorgeous beaches of Carlsbad are swimming, fishing, boating or simply relaxing on its pristine beaches.
