| The hiking trails are strenuous. Remember to carry plenty of water along while negotiating the hiking trails of the Grand Canyon in the desert climate. The 1.2 million acres of terrain is rough and mainly inaccessible due to the inhospitable cliffs. The hikers can cross the Colorado River only at the Phantom Ranch. The hike is meant for the adventurous; it begins at an elevation of 7,000 to 8,000 feet, first climbing downwards and by the time you are ready to climb up, chances are that you are already tired out. Also there is an elevation difference of more than 10,000 feet from the start to the finish of the journey. Hiking trails begin from the South and North Rim. Roads leading to the North are closed in the winter months due to the heavy snowfall and are usually open from mid May to the end of October depending on the weather conditions. Also if you are planning your hiking trip from the North Rim, keep in mind the distance to the bottom is twice as from the South Rim.

You can obtain it from any Game and Fish office, fishing supply stores, sporting good stores or from the Arizona Department of Game & Fish.
You can indulge in boating in permitted boats from 5:00 AM until 10:00 PM. All boats operating after dark and before sunrise need to have proper boat lighting. The lake is also a popular destination for running, rowing, sailing, walking, skating and bicycling. |

This 70-acre sports complex offers facilities for lit soccer, baseball, and softball fields. The highlight of this complex is the 35,000-square foot skate park with facilities for the entire family.
