    Music Festivals
    The summer season sees the whole of Italy gearing up for some music, which is universally hailed as the food for the soul. You are one lucky mortal, if you are visiting Italy in July for that is when Umbria Jazz at Perugia takes place and is a real treat for those who live, eat and sleep Jazz. For those with an advanced degree in appreciation of music, the Summer Opera Festival at Arena is for you. It is true that the best things in life come for free. You can catch excellent musicians doing free shows in the town piazzas, in the summers.
     
    The Stella Maris festival, Camogl
    The first Sunday of August sees the ports adorned with flowers decorated boats, signifying the protection of the Holy virgin and the child. This custom dates back to the 15th century.  As the floating boats cross the tiny gulf of Camogli, candles by the thousands are placed in colored wax cups and floated on to the sea. The gentle flickering candle light and the pretty innocent flowers and the softly bobbing boats amidst the blue waters make a very awe-inspiring sight. 
     
    Carnivals

    February begins with carnival celebrations taking place all over Italy. This festival is marked by adults attending parties in masks and children going about in pretend dresses and gorging on doughnuts chiacchiere, tortelli and fritelle. The festival culminates on the day before Lent.

     
    Food fairs
    Salone Del Gusto Food fair in Turin commences in the month of august and is the largest of its kind. Stalls of every kind selling everything from all over the world are in abundance. The National Fair of the White Truffle in Acqualagna is dedicated to the tartufo (truffle) and is celebrated from the last Sunday of October.  The Cremona’s Torrone Food festival celebrates the nougat which was born in this town. There is much fun and frolic and merry making as lumbers and musicians and jugglers attract the visitors and the eateries entertain the guest with drink and food. And nougats, naturally!
