| The Vatican |
The Vatican needs no introduction. It is one of the unquestionable jewels in the history of mankind. It is impossible to find parallels for it, anywhere else. Immensely huge, its 12 complexes and more than 1300 rooms housing treasures that span centuries, the Vatican is a phenomenon that cannot be covered in a single day or even a few days for that matter. The Holy Door opens only once in a year and if you are lucky you can actually pass through it in to the main building. The sentries, guarding this monument that is dedicated to the spirit of art, are a piece of art themselves. Their colorful livery is a treat to the eyes. As you stand spellbound by the representations of the last judgment by Perugino and Botticelli, on the Sistine chapel ceilings and the sheer beauty of the Rooms of Rafael, the Octagonal Courtyard, the Belvedere Torso, the Gallery of the Maps and the Gallery of Tapestries, you find yourself transported back in time, to a fascinating era, that like the Vatican, has no examples!
The Vatican opens from 8.45Am to 3.45Pm, from March 1-October 29/ December20-December 30 and from 8.45 Am -12.45 Pm, during the other months. Admission is free during the last Sunday of every month. |

| The Spanish Steps, Rome |
| The celebrated Spanish Steps or the Scalinata di Spagna in Rome lead you through the Piazza di Spagna and culminate at the truly beautiful French church, Trinita dei Monti. The Spanish Steps attract tourists from world over especially in the month of May when they wear a dress of charming pink azalea flowers. The trinity of the Piazza, the Steps and the Church is hugely popular with visitors and you would do well to remember that dirtying the steps by eating or littering is considered a culpable offence. |

| Trevi Fountain, Rome |
If you are visiting Trevi Fountain, it means that your luck is about to change for the better! With your back to this historic centrepiece in the heart of Rome, throw a coin over your left shoulder. Legend has it that you will return to Rome. And when you are in Rome, your luck has to be at its high! The world-famous and delightful Trevi Fountain is located at Trevi Square and like the rays of the sun, several lanes shoot out from the sides, and has people selling all sorts of things, including ice-creams and bags. Trevi Fountain has Lord Neptune, riding on two horses with opposite emotions, as its focal point; the horses representing diametrically opposite moods of the sea. |

| Ponte Vecchio, Florence |
Ponte Vecchio, meaning ‘old bridge’ is predictably, Florence’s oldest bridge! Its origin lies in the ancient Roman past but Vasari Corridor, encircling the Manelli Tower to the other side of the Arno River was added to it only in the 15th century. Tourists throng the bridge to catch the picturesque views of the setting sun and the city. In summers, Ponte Vecchio becomes a lively theatre where portrait painters and street performers showcase their talents and regale the crowds. It is always picnic time and shopping time when you are on Ponte Vecchio, for the shops here offer awesome antique and contemporary jewellery. |

| The Colosseum, Piazza del Colosseo, Rome |
The first thing you would notice about the Colosseum is that it is really huge. It can hold up tp 50,000 people at once. Majestically overlooking hills of Celian, Oppian and Palatine, the Colloseum or Flavian Amphitheater, once used to be the hotspot for merciless gladiator matches between the man and the beast. Its 3 floors have 80 arch-shaped holes and the fourth floor is taller than all of those. The entrance fee is small but the queue is not! It opens from 9 AM, every day.
The creator of this breathtaking architectural wonder has got lost in the pages of history but his soul will live on, till the time the Colosseum lives. |
