Situated on the main street in Pitkin in a Red School House, this museum is a gateway to this region’s rich historic past and legacy. Find out exciting facts, enchanting myths and unique tales as you dig into old newspapers, photographs dating to late 1880s and early 1900s and discover interesting tit bits of the nearby Alpine Tunnel, which once used to be the world’s highest and most expensive narrow gauge railroad tunnel in its time. The museum is owned by Pitkin Historical and Community Association and is open to the public from June 1 to shortly after Labor Day for a few hours in the morning and in the afternoon. Though there is no admission charge, donations are always welcomed. |
