    Ocean Institute
    Dana Point is home to the Ocean Institute, a research and nature center. You will love the displays of tide-pool life and nautical sailing gear here. On weekends, visitors can step aboard the Pilgrim, a replica of the 1830 ship that Richard Henry Dana sailed. This is a non-profit educational organization, which offers laboratories with a student capacity of 78,000.

    The Institute opens from Monday through Friday from 8 AM – 5 PM. The campus is home to a gift shop as well, which opens between 9 AM to 5 PM (until 6 PM in summers.) Public tours of around 40 minutes are available on Thursdays and Fridays only at 3:30 PM, which cost $2 per person and children 2 and under are allowed for free. On Saturdays and Sundays the center offers touch tanks, animal feeding sessions, learning labs and rotating exhibits offering 360° views. The center opens from 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The charges include is $6 for adults, $4 for children (3-12years), and children (2 and under) are allowed for free.
     
    Dana Point Harbor
    The landmark attraction of Dana Point is home to 2 magnificent marinas within a one and a half mile of jetty area. Dana Point Harbor shelters 2,500 yachts and offers total harbor amenities with a launch ramp, fuel dockyard, shipyard, guest slips, yacht sales, boat rentals and charters, fishing, jet skiing, kayaking, windsurfing, 2 yacht clubs, shops, picnic sheds, restaurants and even a protected baby beach for younger swimming enthusiasts. The Harbor will tale a lead in pleasing all shopping and dining aficionados for the variety and choices it offers in both!
     
    Salt Creek Beach Park
    The endless stretch of sandy beach at this Salt Creek Beach Park is famous for its surfing opportunities. You can indulge in both land and water activities at the Park, while approaching it from Ritz Carlton Drive off Pacific Coast Highway. The trails to the southern end of the park offer stunning vistas of Catalina Island with its gleaming shoreline, which being a busy route for gray whales’ migration promises some whale watching opportunities as well. Facilities provided by the Park include multi-use trails, beach access, outdoor showers, changing rooms, wheelchair-accessible restrooms, snack bar, picnic tables in designated picnic areas, barbeque grills, benches and parking spaces. The Park remains open from 6 AM until midnight.

    The paved pathways from the Park transport you to another 7-acres grassy Bluff park, where you can enjoy walking or jogging. Bluff Park offers picnic tables, barbeque grills, benches and even wheelchair-accessible restrooms.
     
    Doheny State Beach
    Known to be the best site for surfing and swimming in the whole of California, Doheny State Beach is 62 acres of pure sand, featuring more than a mile of shimmering coastline. Under the supervision of the California Department of Parks and Recreation, the tide pools at the time of low tides are declared to be safe by both novices and experienced. Yo can enjoy camping at its campgrounds, which offer 120 developed campsites suitable for families along with a designated picnic area featuring 170 picnic tables and 99 barbeque grills for a lovely day out for picnicking. The visitor centre greets you at the entrance of the Beach, which houses 5 aquariums with its native inhabitants, exhibitions and displays, an indoor tide pool, souvenir gift shop and even a photographed history of ancient Doheny surfing days.
