| Beach Activities |
With 23 miles of beach, from busy, crowded beaches to quiet and secluded areas, Daytona allows the beach lover to enjoy a host of water activities and sports. Walk or bike on miles of beach or just relax and sunbathe. Most stretches of beach are patrolled, so you can rest assured that the beaches here are safe.
Driving on the beach is allowed during daylight hours from 1 hour after sunrise to 1 hour before sunset, with the exception of turtle nesting season. The nesting season runs from May 1 through October 31, at which time the hours are set from 8 AM to 7 PM. During the nesting season, please be sure to follow all recommendations for protecting this endangered species.
Please follow the signs that clearly mark the traffic lane and remember that the speed limit on the beach is ten miles per hour. Remember that alcoholic beverages and dogs are not permitted on the beach. The beaches are closed to all water activity when lightning is in the area. |

Lighthouse Point Park: This park features fishing, nature trails, an observation deck and a tower. The park is inhabited by wild life creatures, including raccoons, possums, skunks, armadillos, shore birds and birds of prey. Lighthouse Point Park is open from 8 AM - 9 PM. There is a $3.50 per vehicle admission charge. |

Volusia County’s Sun Splash Park: Beachgoers can beat the heat at Volusia County’s Sun Splash Park. The park features an interactive water fountain, decorative walkways, a shaded playground, volleyball courts, picnic areas, restrooms, outdoor showers and beach access ramps. The park is open from sunrise to sunset and entry is free. |

Daytona Beach area offers an impressive choice of scenic waterways. The Spruce Creek, Tomoka River and Bulow Creek Trails are part of the Florida Recreational Trail System.

| Scuba Diving and Snorkeling |
Fresh and saltwater diving and snorkeling are popular in Daytona Beach. For saltwater diving, the area has a number of shipwrecks, like the Liberty Ship, and 2 WWII TB-M torpedo bombers that crashed. The Volusia County Port Authority's also has an Artificial Reef Program. These 13 reef sites were constructed with the remains of ships, barges, concrete culverts, airplanes and local demolished bridges. Offshore, rock-ledge reef systems include Party Grounds, Nine Mile and East Eleven.
If you prefer freshwater diving, the area's natural springs are an exciting alternative including Blue Spring State Park and De Leon Spring State Recreation Area. These springs feature spectacular underwater sites such as manatees and limestone-walled caves.
The Daytona Beach area has diving instruction and dive charter boat companies with experienced instructors and guides who will chaperone visitors to the area's best diving spots. These companies also offer equipment sales. |

| The Daytona Beach coastal area has many spots suitable for surfing. Generally the breaks are good and submerged reefs aren’t a problem. The best swells are just south of Daytona Beach at Ponce Inlet. You can surf in Daytona year-round. Summer surf temperatures range from 75? F to 82? F. Winter water temperatures seldom dip below 58? F. For those new to surfing, there are several surf instructors, as many surf shops offer group and individual lessons. Equipment rental is available. |

The Daytona International Speedway is a thrilling experience for those who love speed. It features a 2.5-mile tri-oval course and 3.56-mile road course. The speedway is the home of the ‘Great American Race,’ the Daytona 500. The 480-acre motor sports complex boasts the most diverse schedule of racing on the globe and offers 10 major weekends of racing activity. The grounds are also used for civic and social gatherings, car shows, production vehicle testing and police motorcycle training.
The Richard Petty Driving Experience allows you to go around this track in the care of an instructor.
Daytona USA allows visitors to compete against each other in 80% scale stock cars in Acceleration Alley. Daytona Dream Laps is a motion simulator ride that places you behind the wheel in a virtual Daytona 500 race and Toyota Tundra's Thunder Road motion simulator takes guests on a fantasy lap with a 360-degree loop. Inside the Pepsi IMAX Theatre, "NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience" and "Daytona 500: The Movie" give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the Daytona 500 and NASCAR. The 16-second Pit Stop Challenge allows visitors the opportunity to be a pit-crew member in a timed pit stop.
Klassix Auto Attraction both feature unusual and interactive motor attractions for racing lovers at different levels of experience. Dune buggy driving and racing is a fun sport that many enjoy.
Bike Week, NASCAR racing, Daytona 500, Pepsi 500 NASCAR race and Biketoberfest are some of the annual events that bike and auto racing enthusiasts love.
Biketoberfest is always held the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the third week in October. Activities include rides, shows, concerts & more.
Bikeweek always begins on the first Friday of March and continues throughout the entire first week of the month. |

| Fishing |
Freshwater fishing, deep-sea fishing, surf fishing and pier fishing are all great in and around Daytona Beach. The 23-mile fishing area gives anglers an opportunity to catch a variety of fish.
For deep sea fishing, a large number of offshore charter and party boats are available for rent. Your catch will likely be sailfish, dolphin, king mackerel, wahoo and tuna, as well as grouper, amberjack and red snapper near the reefs.
Surf fishing here is a year-round sport. Pompano, whiting, bluefish, redfish, flounder and jack crevalle thrive here. For those who want to try their hand at it, Main Street Pier opens at 6 AM and closes at 11 PM daily and Sunglow Fishing Pier is open 24 hours a day. There is a daily pier charge, with monthly and seasonal passes available. If you travel to West Volusia County, about 20 minutes away, you will find Florida plenty of black bass. Local guides consider November - February and April - June to be peak periods. From February - July, the waters are teeming with saltwater striped bass and hybrid striped bass. Black crappie are most abundant from January - March and in December, but are available throughout the year. The best months for blue gill and other pan fish are April - June.
Temporary 12 month, 7day, and 3 day fishing licenses, both freshwater and saltwater, are available for nonresidents. Children under the age of 16 do not need a license to fish in Florida. |
