    Beach Activities and Water Sports
    The 2 miles of clean, wide, public beachfront, several picturesque beach inlets and water warmed by the Gulf Stream as well a lack of rip currents make Delray Beach a particularly safe area for water sports. Swim, snorkel, dive, surf, sail and ski on the lovely Atlantic waters or simply laze around on the beaches. The Atlantic Dunes Park is a great place to enjoy the beach with your family. It is lifeguard supervised all day and has a boardwalk, nature trail, pavilion, public restrooms and picnic tables. Many local parks provide boat-launching facilities and divers will want to see the wreck of the SS Inchulva, a few 100 yards from shore. This popular dive site was sunk in a hurricane in 1903.
     
    Fishing
    Saltwater anglers often cast out right at the beach, or you can take a private or group charter out of a marina for a day of deep sea fishing in the Atlantic. If you prefer fresh water fishing, Lake Ida is a great place for freshwater fishing. Try your luck at catching largemouth bass. You can fish from the various fishing piers in Delray Beach or go deep-sea fishing on the many charter boats available.

    Temporary 12 month, 7day and 3 day fishing licenses are available for non-residents. Children under the age of 16 do not need a license to fish in Florida.
     
    Walking and Hiking

    The Delray Beach city parks have numerous walking and hiking trails for outdoor enthusiasts, with varying levels of complexity. Walk along the Cultural Loop to see the historical sights, or choose to walk in the natural environs of the Wakodahatchee Wetlands. The nature trails at the Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex also have interactive exhibits along the way.
