    Beach Activities

Encinitas’ viable location along the six-mile rugged coastline makes it a popular beach vacation rental destination. Whether you are looking forward to surfing, scuba diving, parasailing or simply lazing away the day soaking the rays of the sun, the beaches in and around Encinitas is just what the doctor ordered. The beaches along this coastline are particularly known for surfing and you will find quite a few of them offer excellent surfing opportunities. San Elijo State Beach is one such beach that has something for both the short and long boarders. Aptly called the Riviera of the West, Cardiff State Beach with its sloping sandy beach is ideal not only for surf, but also for swimming, fishing and beachcombing. If you have romance in your mind, then Grandview Beach and Moonlight Beach are the ideal beach destinations for you as they give you enough excuses to watch the sunset together or to enjoy a romantic stroll on the moonlit beach. D Street Beach also caters to people seeking quiet moments in the serenity of nature.

If you feel, you have read enough about beaches, well you would need to think again as the beaches of Encinitas would be incomplete without the mention of one specific beach known as Swami’s Beach. Besides letting you enjoy some of the most spectacular sunsets, Swami Beach is famed for its excellent surfing and it is considered to be a local favorite. Located few yards away from the beach is Self-Realization Fellowship Retreat, Gardens and Hermitage, where people come to commune with nature and reconnect with the self amid the scenic surroundings. Given the sanctity of the place, no alcohol is allowed. Pets too are not permitted here. The walk along the beach is also an exhilarating experience and there is no scene more attractive than seeing the sunset in the distant horizon that invokes a feeling of calmness, peace and tranquility tinged with a wee bit of sadness.

    Birdwatching
Boating, fishing, jet skiing, water skiing to deep sea fishing, surf fishing and paddle-boating, Encinitas is offers them all. Hiking
San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve is also of special interest for the hikers. The one-mile loop trail passes right through the Nature Center and is excellent way to observe the rare flora and fauna of the scenic surroundings. There are rest rooms and drinking water available on route but during summers it is advisable to carry water along. Apart from this one-mile loop, there are five more miles of public hiking trails traversing the Reserve. You have to drive to the end of Rios to reach the trailhead.

    Whale Watching
The Pacific Ocean is a natural habitat for the whales and therefore naturally whale watching is a favorite past time for the locals as well as the visitors. Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla hosts the gray whale season. There are classes, educational activities, and exhibits during this period. The outdoor terrace provides the perfect vantage point to view the whales. Multi-day trips are also organized to San Ignacio in Baja California. The San Diego Natural History Museum also offers multi-day, naturalist-led whale-watching trips to Baja California.
