Fishing is a popular sport and there is a plethora of exotic fish available in and around Hilton Head Island. However, you would need to obtain a license for both saltwater and freshwater fishing from the state of South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. The season for saltwater fishing runs form April through October and the season for freshwater fishing is from September to December.
Want to go after that school of kings or hook that 100-pound shark? Well, you can do it on Hilton Head Island. There are more than 20 types of shark swimming in local waters. You can charter a boat to go to the Gulf Stream, cruise the creeks and sounds or rent a bare boat and explore the deep waters of the ocean. Local species include snapper, grouper, kingfish, cobia, bluefish, spot tail bass, swordfish and shark. Inshore you can always hook up your bait to catch sea trout and croakers. For something different, go shrimping on one of the trawlers.
