We all know Hawaii is rich and culture and traditions and the best way to get a closer glimpse of them is the festivals and events held throughout the year. Kailua Kona in Big Island is no exception to it and it is known to host quite a few of its own cultural galas.

    Merrie Monarch Hula Festival
    Held in December, this festival honors the legacy of King David Kalakaua, Hawaii’s last king. It is the biggest show of the year and the largest event of its kind in the world. The festival is staged in Hilo at the spacious Edith Kanaka’ole Stadium during the first week following Easter Sunday. You need to reserve accommodations and tickets up to a year in advance.
     
    Kona Brewers Festival
    The second Saturday in March brings opportunity to sample the best of local beer at a festival including live music, fire dancing, fashion, food, and an award ceremony for best home brew. Tickets go on sale each year in the Hawaii Islands in mid-February and there is no refund on the tickets.
     
    Kona Coffee Cultural Festival
    The annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival is Hawaii’s oldest food festival, bringing locals together while attracting hundreds of visitors to celebrate Kona’s famous harvest at more than 30 community events.
     
    Annual International Festival of the Pacific
    Held in April this festival celebrates Japanese influences on Hawaii culture. Highlights include a Lantern Parade, craft and food festival, and a Japanese tea ceremony at the Tea House at Liliuokalani Park.
