    Kona Historical Society
    Discover the uniqueness of Kailua Kona through its fascinating collection of over 40,000 photos, artifacts and publications found at the Kona Historical Society. Step back into the past with the historic Kona Walking Tour that takes you to see some really interesting sights such as the the King Kamehameha’s last seat of government; the restored temple of Ahuena Heiau; the summer palace of Hawaiian royalty called the Hulihe`e Palace and the first destination resort in West Hawaii. You can contact the Historical Society to book in advance and it’s always advisable to do so.

    The Historical Society features another tour, which is called the Kona Coffee Living History Farm. This tour takes you through traditional coffee orchards, an authentic farm house, Japanese bath house, coffee processing mill and assorted out-buildings. You can take this tour Monday through Friday from 9AM to 1PM on the hour.
     
    Kaloka-Honokahau National Park
    Delve into the mysteries of Hawaii’s cultural and historical facets at the 1160-acre Kaloka-Honokahau National Park in Kailua Kona. Here you will see an ancient Hawaiian settlement that has the traditional sea to mountain land divisions and includes resources such as fishponds, Kahua (house site platforms), ki’i pohaku (petroglyphs), holua (stone slide) and heiau (religious site). The admission is free and the place is usually open from 8:30 AM to 4PM.
     
    Jaggar Museum
    Situated inside the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the Jaggar Museum showcases a number of exhibits related to the active volcano, science and geology. You will find some of the most awe-inspiring full-color photographs of past volcanic activity and even the equipment and gear that are used to study volcanoes. The admission to the park is S10 per car and $5 for pedestrians or bicyclists. The Museum is open from 8:30AM to 5PM daily.
