The Pike & San Isabel National Forests
Encompassing nearly three million acres, this is one of the most diverse of the national forests. The forests feature a variety of landforms ranging from prairies to artic tundra and all the variety in between. The 14 thousand foot peaks stretches from Colorado’s Front Range to the wide-open grasslands of western Kansas. The wilderness areas, ski resorts and the numerous scenic byways offer a myriad of recreational activities. Visit the ghost towns or hike for miles on the Colorado or Continental Divide Trails. The remote backcountry is home to interesting geological, historical and cultural sites. Recreational activities in the forests include hiking, kayaking, rafting, mountain biking, scenic driving, horseback riding and picnicking.

Skiing
Referred to as the "ultimate all-things-to-all-skiers" resort by a skiing magazine, Keystone offers a seven-month skiing season, which runs from November through April. Three mountains are directly accessible from the Keystone Village Base area, while the fourth, Arapahoe Basin, is a 10-minute shuttle ride up Loveland Pass. Situated above the Continental Divide at 13,050 feet, Arapahoe Basin is said to be the highest skiiable terrain in North America. Though small in size with only 490 skiiable acres, this basin offers a challenging terrain with 40% of runs designated as advanced, 45% as intermediate and the remaining 15% as beginner. The mountains are famous for their wide and groomed terrains perfect for families and beginners. The more adventurous can try out the steep runs on the North Peak.
