Kitty Hawk and its nearby areas host a number of events including musical, kite flying and even hang gliding. Hang Gliding Spectacular is scheduled in the third week of May each year, which has been celebrated for over thirty years now, though it was called with a different name initially. The occasion is all about the fun involved in gliding. Amateurs and even the experienced come from all over to Kitty Hawk for participating in this competition, party around and of course meet new and old friends. The entry is free for spectators.
Outer Banks Music Showcase is another event, which is a live musical show held nightly, featuring country music, show tunes, Gospel, ‘50s and ‘60s music, patriotic and comedy, an event for your entire family. “Where Branson meets the Outer Banks” is the slogan for the America’s favorite music. Getting To and Around Kitty Hawk |
Norfolk International Airport, Virginia is the closest major airport to Kitty Hawk. The town of Kitty Hawk is located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, approximately 50 miles south of the Virginia border. Private and chartered aircrafts can use Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, Currituck County Airport, or Wright Memorial Airstrip in Kill Devil Hills.
From the western parts of North Carolina, take Highway 64 to Williamston and then either Highway 64 to Manteo and enter Kitty Hawk from the south or take Highway 17 through Elizabeth City and Currituck County to Highway 158 and you enter Kitty Hawk from the north.
Coming from Virginia and northern parts, take Highway 168 south from Chesapeake. It merges with Highway 158 in Currituck County and enters Kitty Hawk.
A four-wheel drive gives you enough freedom and mobility to experience the region in its true spirit and of course, you can enjoy driving on the beaches too.
