If you happen to be fond of eating, especially mouth-watering innovative seafood dishes, then you must plan your visit in March, which witnesses Original Marathon Seafood Festival. For over 25 years now, in the month of April, Marathon witnesses Seven Mile Bridge Run. More than 1500 people participate including avid runners, even occasional fitness freaks and Olympic expectants, who race over the world’s longest fragmented bridge. This event is quite popular among the locals and vacationers from nearby areas.  

If you are planning a vacation in May, you could catch Marathon Offshore Grand Prix, which is a thrilling speed boat race. Hold your stomach and do not fall off your seats, while watching “Jake's Women.” This Neil Simon's rib-tickling comedy show is presented at Marathon Community Theatre in the end of July and first week of August.

All this and more, you can savor at the area’s one of the best restaurants, while enjoying a drink of your choice from its well-stocked Californian-dominated wine cellar. Nestled at the end of the landmark Seven-Mile Bridge is the Seven Mile Restaurant, where you can relish excellent seafood dishes in an open-air setting, complimented by a friendly ambiance.

If you just can’t dream of sleeping early at night, head to Marathon Community Theatre where you can enjoy some live music and drama performances along with good comedies. Alternatively, as the sun sets down, you can take refuge at one of Marathon’s several lounges and bars.

Overseas Highway, the lifeline of the Keys and Quay Village is where you will find all the shops are clustered, to satiate the shopaholic in you!  Best Times to Visit Marathon

The Florida Keys are said to have the best weather in the world. Warm and tropical the year round, the lows in the Keys rarely dip below 60º F. The average annual temperature is 74º F. The temperature peaks at just about touch 90º F in the summer months. June to September is hurricane season, but normally hurricanes pass the Keys by. 

Year round subtropical climate makes Marathon, and indeed the Keys, a sought-after destination the whole year. Fall sees some discounts being offered though, and winter is when you will see the crowds. You could time your visit for the Original Marathon Seafood Festival, which takes place in March, or the annual Seven-Mile Bridge Run, which takes place in April.

Miami International Airport serves the area of Marathon and is a convenient 2.5 hours drive from here. You can also use the Key West International Airport, which is just an hour’s drive from Marathon. Regular shuttles can be boarded or even rental cars are available from the airport to fetch you to your destination, Marathon.
