Bahia Honda State Park and Long Key State Recreation Area see a lot of water sporting action. If you are going in May, you could catch Marathon Offshore Grand Prix - a speedboat-racing event. |

More than 30 diving sites can be found off Marathon, which bring you close to the stunning wealth of colorful coral and reef formations, teeming with equaling enticing marine creatures. The reefs around the Keys, National Marine Sanctuary, and Thunderbolt (a 188-foot Navy research vessel that was sunk in 1986 to create an artificial reef) are the favorite haunts for avid divers. Sombrero Reef, one of the most beautiful sections of North America's only living coral barrier reef, lies just several miles offshore and is protected by the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
Complimented by comfortable water temperatures ranging from 88º F in summers and 75º F in winters, diving at Florida Keys is a one-of-its-kind experience. Diving enthusiasts just cannot resist the temptation to dive a range of 20 to 120 feet for unearthing the pillar corals and Thunderbolt wreckage. |

| Marathon has opportunities for offshore or deep-sea fishing, reef fishing, bay fishing, backcountry (flats) fishing and even everglades fishing – you name it and you have it! Marathon Key West Hump, a 480-feet mound in the gulf offshore of Marathon, is the feeding ground for lots of game fish, including shark, white and blue marlin, amberjack, and black fin tuna. Avid anglers can even drop their angles to reap some rich catches down the Seven Mile Bridge, at the stunning Sunset Park or even from under Vaca Cut Bridge. |
