| The Marco Historical Society maintains permanent museums at Marco Island Area Association of Realtors and at the Old Marco Inn Annex Office Building. There you can find relics of the ancient Calusa Indians, the first inhabitants of the area, on display. You could also take a self-guided history tour using a map and 13 bronze plaques that are located throughout the city at significant sites. Start with the Marker 1 near the S.S. Joley Bridge and travel through the Marco Village site, Collier Homestead, Frank Cushing Archaeological Site, Railroad Turn-a-Round (site of the depot of the Atlantic Coast line Railroad) and the Calusa Indian Village and historical areas. |

Collier County Historical Museum: Established in 1978, the Collier County Historical Museum preserves and interprets the history, archaeology and development of Southwest Florida’s last frontier. The depictions were set up as early as 1977, in this 5-acres historical park, which included primeval fossils and Indian civilizations.
The Collier County Historical Museum is open year round, Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, and on Saturdays from 9 AM to 4 PM. It is closed on National and County Holidays and is accessible to the handicapped. Admission to the museum is free. |

Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts: The Phil, as the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts is known, is unique among arts centers. It features both the performing and visual arts in a single complex, as well as a resident orchestra. In addition to a main hall and a black box theater, the Phil has 4 art galleries. The Phil hosts over 400 individual events each season, including dance, opera, music and Broadway musicals. The center’s busiest time is between October and April. The Naples Museum of Art hours vary depending on the season and it is closed on Mondays and on major holidays. Main lobby doors of Hayes Hall and the Daniels Pavilion open 1 hour before each performance. Theater entrance doors open for seating 30 minutes before the performance so, make sure that you plan your departure from your Marco Island vacation rental home well in advance. |
