Special Information for Booking Vacation Rentals in Murphy |
The high season is winters and the rate tends to be the highest during New Year and Christmas. Some vacation rentals offer special weekly rates from January 2 to end of April. Linens in living rooms and bedrooms are included in the Murphy vacation rental rent. There is a lodging tax of 10% and all rentals require an advance security deposit. Cancellation and refunds require an advance intimation of 30 days. All Murphy vacation rental units are not pet and smoke friendly though there are some units that can accommodate pets on additional charges. Units allowing pets may also charge a non-refundable pet fee. Most Murphy vacation rentals require a minimum stay period, which varies from rental to rental. The security deposit is returned on check out usually within 24 hours, once housekeeping report is received by the owner. |

Murphy Fairs and Festivals |
In Murphy, each month of the year features fairs, festivities and entertainment and to enjoy these events book your Murphy vacation rental or Murphy cabin well in advance. Folk School Concerts are held almost every Friday evenings and are open to the public who can also appreciate the exhibition of arts and crafts items prepared by the students in the Keith House Community Room where concerts are also held. Bimonthly Saturday Night Dances are held at the John C. Campbell Folk School between 8-11 PM. Contra and Square dances are held with live music in which people of all types and age groups including children, adults, beginners, singles and couples can freely participate. Visit the John C. Murphy Mornings start every Saturday from 10 AM and continue up to 2 PM in the pocket parks on the corners of Peachtree and Tennessee streets, downtown Murphy, featuring Cedar Valley Farmer's Market’s quilters and crafters. The Shpppes of Murphy feature musical entertainment on the first Friday of every month from March through October. A live band performs from 7 PM to 10 PM on Friday evenings. A Dance Night is held on the third Friday of every month at the Daily Grind. Other events include wine tasting.
Besides these regular monthly celebrations, an Annual Heritage Walk and Festival is held on the Second September every year. This is an occasion to walk back to history and heritage of the county along with the area artists, crafters and growers enjoying food and live entertainment all the way. Children’s games are held in the historic town center of Murphy. The admission is free. Annual Appalachian Highland Games are held every 9th September to celebrate the rich Scot-Irish history and heritage of the area. You can partake in a variety of Scottish foods and games and enjoy glimpses of Scottish history and culture on the grounds of the Andrews Recreation Park.
Carolina Brass of the Brasstown Concert Association will have your feet tapping as the performers combine virtuosity and good humor in their presentations. The audience is regaled with their fresh, vibrant and energetic concerts and a variety of classical and contemporary performances.
17th November is fixed for the Murphy Hometown Christmas Celebrations that begin at 6 PM with the tree lighting ceremony, choirs and hand bells. The next day is meant for shopping with Santa Claus strolling along the streets. The month of December is to honor your loved ones with Love Lights of various colors decorating the stately pine trees on the grounds of the Andrews Chamber of Commerce at the Andrews Depot. The collections are donated to the American Cancer Society. The light costing around $5 can be purchased to commemorate those who died of cancer and to honor those who were brave enough to fight cancer and survive.

Cole House is well known for serving a variety of delicious items in a relaxed atmosphere of an early 1900’s Andrew’s Home. The varied menu includes regional specialties like mountain trout and aged steaks. Their Caesar salads consists of Romaine Heart, Cherry Tomatoes and Croutons tossed with their classic dressing topped with shaved Parmesan and Archovy. The Longhouse Restaurant and Bar is located on the spectacular grounds of the Cherokee Hills Golf Club in Murphy. They prepare their own stocks of soups and sauces from market fresh vegetables and meats. The live entertainment on weekends features local bands that make the customers sing and dance along as the band plays. The restaurant presents American and continental menus of delectable meals to satisfy any palate. The Italian Buffet is featured on Monday nights and it consists of shrimp scampi to chicken parmigiana. BBQ Buffet is offered on Wednesday nights.

| Depending upon which side you are coming from Murphy is either the first or the last town in North Carolina. Murphy is located about one hour from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and less than that from the Nantahala River and Ocoee River both popular for whitewater rafting in North Carolina. Murphy is only about two hours away from Atlanta, GA, Greenville, SC, and Asheville, NC etc. The nearest airports are Asheville, NC or Knoxville, TN. |
