Hiking
The best place to go for hiking is Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, but the hiking here is not the same as mountain hiking in the conventional sense of the word, as the area consists of wetlands and mangrove forests arising from salt water. The main hiking trail in the refuge is the sandy 2-mile one-way Indigo Trail, a flat sandy trail atop an earthen dike starting from the visitor center. You may also hike along the Wildlife Drive.

Biking
You can bike along the 4.5 long Wildlife Drive and also the Indigo Trail. Biking, being an environment friendly activity is encouraged here and is extremely enjoyable. You can rent the bikes on nominal rates.

Boating, Canoeing and Kayaking
The waters to the right of Wildlife Drive are open for boating including canoeing and kayaking. Motorized boating is prohibited in certain clearly marked wildlife sensitive areas. You can however, freely paddle through the marked trails in Tarpon Bay. Kayaks and canoes, like the bikes, are available for rent on nominal rates.

Bird Watching
North Captiva Island is a sanctuary for many species of birds including osprey, ibis, cormorants, egrets, bald eagles, terns, brown and white pelicans, and many more. Bring along your binoculars and watch the birds soaring freely in the skies.
