Whether it is cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skiing, sledding in winters or hiking and biking in summers, Lake Tahoe State Park is perfect and an ideal destination for all nature lovers. Within the park you will also find Big Bend Visitor Center, which traces the area’s transportation history and even has exhibits on natural history.
     
    Shipwreck Island Water Park
    Think water parks and immediately an image pops up of feeling the adrenaline rush as one zooms through the water slides and hits the pool with a splash or enjoying one of those water tube rides that whirls and swerves till you feel giddy with excitement and joy. Here’s your chance to relive that joy and excitement and etch out some unforgettable moments at the nearby Shipwreck Island Water Park. Tree Top Drop, Raging Pirates, Pirates Plunge, White Knuckle River and The Great Shipwreck are just some of the rides that will transport you to a world of excitement and adventure. Pelican, Frog and Silly Sub rides will keep your little ones amused and entertained all day long. For visitors 50 inches and above, the fee is $28 per person; for those between 35 to 50 inches, the fee is $23 and is free for guests under 35 inches.
     
    Tallac Historic Site
    The lakeside Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe is a walk down memory lane as it takes you on a tour of the opulent edifices of a bygone era. Among the various remarkable landmarks, the Pope, Baldwin and Valhalla Estates stand out. The Pope Estate is open for guided tours and art exhibitions and Baldwin has been turned into a museum that houses a collection of family memorabilia and Washoe Indian artifacts, while Valhalla with its beautiful wood floors and open wood beam ceiling has become a popular venue for cultural events and concerts. The Tallac Historic Site is open from Memorial Day through September and the grounds remain open from sunrise to sunset.
