    Fort Pickens
    A part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Fort Pickens, situated on the shores of Santa Rosa Island is a rich mélange of culture, history and an abundance of recreational opportunities. Miles and miles of gorgeous beaches beckon you to surrender your worldly tension and bask in the moment of serene splendor and beauty. Enjoy a picnic with your family on the beaches or explore the surroundings through hiking or biking or simply laze on the beach. Even if you are not a history buff a visit to the fort is a must, which was named after the Revolutionary War hero, Andrew Pickens.

     

    If the fort piques your curiosity, do visit the Fort Pickens Museum that gives you in-depth information on the plant and animal life on Fort Pickens along with a detailed overview on the historical aspect of the fort. You can be a part of the tour which is conducted everyday at 2:00 PM and lasts for 45 minutes. The tour is free of cost; however you would need to pay an entry fee to enter the Gulf Islands National Seashore Park.
     
    Historic Pensacola Village
    Resembling an old English colonial town, the Historic Pensacola Village is definitely not an attraction just for the history buffs as it has something to offer to everyone that includes architectural marvels and museums and an extensive selection of precious artifacts. The village offers guided tour of the 1805 French-Creole Lavalle House, the 1871 Dorr House, the 1832 Old Christ Church and the 1890 Lear-Rocheblave House. Besides this you can also take a tour of the T.T. Wentworth, Jr. Florida State Museum, which displays exhibits of Western Florida’s history and has a special hands-on Discovery Museum for children. The admission to this museum is free. The Historic Pensacola Village is open Monday through Saturday from 10AM to 4PM.
     
    Sam's Fun City
    Located in the heart of Pensacola, Sam’s Fun City offers tremendous fun for all age groups. It features more than 13 amusement rides, bumper boats, Hollywood miniature golf and 3 separate golf cart tracks. Apart from trying your hand at the arcade games on the Gulf Coast, you can also explore the extreme Laser Tag in the 1,600-foot arena. This fun park is open from Sunday to Thursday from 11am to 9pm. For Friday and Saturday, the timing is from 10am to 12am. There is no admission charge but you will have to buy tickets for the rides.
     
    The Big Lagoon State Park
    This coastal park separates the mainland from Perdido Key and the Gulf of Mexico. You’ll come across the natural communities of the region ranging from saltwater marshes to pine flatwoods. These communities are home to and also attract a wide variety of birds, especially during the spring and fall migrations. The Park offers endless opportunities for exploring the beaches and shallow bays, trying out the nature trails and also for camping, swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, and hiking. Crabbing in the shallow waters of Big Lagoon is another popular activity.
