Playa del Carmen Fairs and Festivals

Playa del Carmen has developed it own homegrown fairs and festivals events and integrated them with the Mayan culture. A vacation at a Playa del Carmen condo or a Playa del Carmen vacation rental is the perfect excuse to enjoy the myriad fairs and festivals that provide the true feel of the city pulse when the locals step forward to greet the guests with fun and blast, which include antique fairs and holiday galas. Since Playa del Carmen is a small place, the locals also participate in the events and festivals at some bigger places in Yucatan peninsula. These fairs include the Bird Festival around November where the bird enthusiasts can watch a variety of birds and also participate in workshops, conferences and exhibitions. Then there is the Yucatan Fair where the stockbreeders participate. Besides the live stock traders there are several other events including horse races, theme parks, children’s shows, cock fights and the traditional palenque festival.

Ferragosto Festival

Ferragosto Festival is held at 5 between Calle 4 and Calle 12. It is basically a Roman Catholic Festival that is celebrated in honor of Virgin Mary in Italy, but in Playa del Carmen, it is held in the month of August with a lot of fanfare including plenty of foods, wines, fireworks and parades. Huge pizzas are cooked and eaten in the whole of the Mayan Riviera where the participants enjoy the liberty of unlimited slices. The admission is free.

Kite Surf Championship and Wind Festival

This festival is held in the month of February at all the important beaches around the town. The waters around Playa del Carmen are filled with boats with colorful sails. The main events of the festivals consist of kite surfing championship where both men and women vie with each other for prizes. There are separate categories for professionals and amateurs. The evenings are filled with colorful festivities such as dinners, bikini contests and award ceremonies.

Latin Jazz Festival

The venue of the festival is 5, Central Park, Playa Del Carmen. This three-day festival is held in November every year. It is a premiere festival of Playa del Carmen and attracts local, national and international participation. There are live performances in Jazz in Playa's Central Park, adjacent to Quinta Avenida. Some of the reputed jazz players include Mint Condition, Iraida Noriega, Las Voces del Jazz and the George Duke Band. Most events are free.

Reggae Festival

The festival is held at Calle 4 Norte, Capitan Tutix where the local and regional reggae bands play on the beaches. The evening marks fire jugglers and live entertainment around huge bonfires. Admission is free.
