| You can take a tour of Historic Punta Gorda, which retains its first structures from the 1920s. The City Hall and the Old County Courthouse are worth visiting for a trip down nostalgia lane. An attraction on the tour is the J.A. Freeman Home. Continuing on the historical theme, you should see the massive old banyan tree on Marion Avenue. |

| An attraction on the tour is the only Victorian home in Charlotte County, J.A. Freeman Home, one of the best-preserved buildings in Punta Gorda, located in the restored downtown district. The 2-storeyed Carpenter Queen Anne house, J.A. Freeman Home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places too. The house opens for public tours from December through April. |

| Florida Adventure Museum |
| The museum provided an insight into the history, culture, and natural environment of Charlotte County. The museum aims at educating people of all ages about Florida and Charlotte County in a practical and interactive atmosphere. The main exhibit changes every 10 to 12 weeks, while the permanent exhibit of Florida Military Heritage features an extensive WWII element too. Natural history displays include fossils, while mounted exhibits comprise lions, leopards and bears also. A wide variety of lectures, educational and outreach programs, and special events are also held here all through the year. The museum opens Monday through Saturday and remains closed on holidays. |

| The city’s history dates back to the landing of Ponce de Leon in 1513. It was believed that he was to have taken a fatal arrow blow at the waterfront spot now occupied by the park with his name, Ponce de Leon Historical Park. The park offers picnic areas and walking trails and is home to the Peace River Wildlife Center, a rehab facility for injured, sick and orphaned animals. |

| The 20-acres nature center features environmental education programs and recreation for the whole family. Biking, walking and hiking enthusiasts can take advantage of its over 5 miles of trails, which intersect a variety of Florida’s ecosystems. Guided walks along almost 5 miles of nature trails through southwest Florida's ecosystems are free of charge during November through April at the Center. Wildlife exhibits and a large screened pavilion are also available at this park. |
