October sees Central Oregon Pumpkin Co. in Redmond hosting the annual Pumpkin Picking Festival. Gather your family and friends and take part in this traditional, yet a fun outdoor activity. Held in the first week of August, the Deschutes County Fair promises five days of good fun, great food and lots of excitement. Amidst all the fun and frolic, don’t miss out on the Rodeo, which is part of the Fair event schedule and free with your admission the fair. This year the fair is being held from 2nd August to 6th August. On 2nd and 3rd August, the fair would be open from 10AM – 10PM; on 4 and 5th August it will be open from 10AM – 11PM and on 6th August from 10AM to 5PM. Roads are relatively congestion free but can be snow covered in the winter so check current road conditions. The Redmond Municipal Airport provides commercial service through Horizon Air, Delta and United Express. The Redmond Airport is located a short distance, 5 minutes, from the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and Expo Center. Amtrak the deluxe Coast Starlight train between Seattle and Los Angeles stops in Chemult, 65 miles south of Bend. Shuttle services provide connections from Chemult to LaPine, Sunriver, Bend and the Redmond Airport several times a week.
