| Snowmass Ski area is the biggest of all the four ski areas in the region and is well connected to the other four mountains. |

Snowmass: Snowmass ski area is located in Snowmass Village in the west of Aspen, nine miles away. It is well connected through free shuttle service to all other four mountains, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain and Buttermilk. There are plenty of selected terrains that satisfy all level of skiers.
Snowmass has a total of 87 trails and more than 3,010 acres of ski able terrain. It has a vertical rise of about 4,406 feet and base elevation of 8,104 feet. There are 22 lifts including high speed quad chairs, magic carpets, double chairs and beginning lifts on the mountain. It is a family haven and snowboarder's Eden. . Intermediate level skiers will find Snowmass perfect as they will find 55% of the 3,010 ski able acres are designated specifically for them. The expert runs here made up for about 32 percent of runs. Around 12 percent of the total runs are termed as difficult.
The longest run of Snowmass is 5.3 miles and there is about 180 acres of snowmaking. The average snowfall is for about 300 inches. If you are in Snowmass for a family vacation, your kids will enjoy a lot as there are plenty of activities, both on and off the mountain, for all age groups. There is a Super Dragon half pipe with incessant riding terrain park. |

Aspen Mountain: Also known as Ajax, this is a perfect place for the mogul skiers. It has about eight lifts, such as the rapid Silver Queen gondola. Enjoy best bump skiing in the Bell Mountain and also in Hyrup's, Walsh's and Kristi's. The novice skiers may find no beginning level runs. This resort has about 65% of trails rated as advanced. |

Aspen Highlands: In essence, Aspen Highlands is one long edge with trails coming down from all sides. Located in just north of the town, there are 115 trails, suitable for both beginner and expert skiers. You can find here the three high speed quads and a huge village in the base area full fledge skiing destination inviting you on an exciting skiing ride. There are a few thrilling descents such as the Olympic Bowl, Steeplechase and the newly made Highland Bowl. The hiking experience in Aspen Highlands is the most exclusive in the whole Colorado. Steeplechase and Highland Bowl have steep and jolty group of trails around that makes this place more exciting.
For the intermediate skiers, Aspen Highlands has a wide bowl known as Thunder and a great deal of low mountain blue runs. This mountain offers slopes with some excellent extreme skiing runs. With skiing, enjoy here the picturesque views of Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak that are perhaps among some of the best views in the country. |

Buttermilk: The smallest of Aspen’s four mountains, Buttermilk is perfect for beginners, experts and snowboarders alike. It has 42 trails and hosts a half pipe and 2 mile long Crazy T'rain Park and a “learn to ski” program for the snowboarders. The tallest mountain is Snowmass at 12,510 feet with 84 trails and 20 lifts. Enjoy several advanced runs at Tiehack section towards east that hosts sweeping views of Maroon Creek Valley. What more, spending a day at Buttermilk, ensures you enjoy excellent powder, cryptic snow sticks and a perfect escape from the hubbubs of Aspen. |

Hunter Creek Area: Situated east of Aspen, Hunter Creek Valley is one of most easily accessible trails and one that can be used for hiking. You will find numerous exciting loops to follow varying from easy to intermediate levels. The Hunter Creek Area is home to some of the most popular trails in the area including Sunnyside Trail, Hunter Valley Trail and Smuggler Mountain Road. The roundtrip distance is about 3 to 4 miles and it takes approximately 3.5hrs to cover this trail. |

Crater Lake: Witness some of the most stunning vistas including that of the 14,000 foot Maroon Bells as you start your trek from Maroon Lake towards the picturesque Crater Lake. The roundtrip distance is approximately 3 miles and it takes almost 3.5 hrs to cover this trail. The best time to take this trail is between May to October and is perfect for easy and intermediate levels. |

Difficult Creek: Aptly named Difficult Creek, this particular trek is perfect for the intermediate levels. It has quite a few challenging tracks and while you hike up this forested trail you will be greeted to some of the most stunning views of Aspen and the valley. The minimum age requirement for this trek is 12 years and the roundtrip distance is about 3 to 4 miles. The length of the trek is approximately 3.5hrs. |

American Lake: In this particular hike, the trail ascends to 2,000 feet in just 3 miles. Though strenuous, this hike is worth it as you would come across the stunning views of the picturesque Castle Creek Valley and an alpine lake. The minimum age for this hike is 12 years and the length of the hike is approximately 5 to 6 hours. The best time to take this hike is from June to October. |

Buckskin Pass: This trek is ideal for advance trekkers as the duration of the trek is almost 8 to 9 hours. This particular trail takes you to Snowmass Lake and on the way you are treated to fabulous views of the Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak. The minimum age requirement for this trek is 16 years of age and the best time to take this trip is from June to October. |

Lost Man Loop: This is another trek which is ideal for advance trekkers as it takes you through various twists and turns and steep climbs. This high altitude trail near Independence Pass offers you some spectacular views of the Continental Divide.
