Best Times to Visit Sonoma |
The best months to visit Sonoma are March to October, when the temperatures are perfect to enjoy the outdoors. However, Sonoma gets crowded on summer and fall weekends. So if you can, choose to vacation here during the week. Late fall and winter, from late October to February, are not so popular, though you can participate in the events surrounding the olive harvest. Come in early spring if you want to visit the wineries.
In general, Sonoma experiences a Mediterranean climate, characterized by wet, mild winters and warm, dry summers. Winter daytime highs touch 50º F, while summer experiences several microclimates influenced by the currents from the Pacific Ocean, as well as the protection offered by the coastal hills. Summer temperatures are around 85º F at the highest and 50º F degrees at the lowest. Summer evenings are, therefore, quite cool compared to the warm days. On an average, this region sees about 28 inches of rainfall a year, with most of the precipitation occurring between November and March. |
