Skiing
Receiving an averagesnowfall of 402 inches, Alpine Meadows ski resort is a haven for ski enthusiasts. Spread over 2000 acres, the terrain is 25% beginner, 40% intermediate, 35% advanced. Facilities include 13 lifts, high-speed 6-passenger chair, one high speed quad chair, three triple chairs, and six double. The resort also houses a full service restaurant, cafeteria, and lounge.
Mountain Biking
The majestic mountains in the South Tahoe region offer the tourists the perfect opportunity to explore the winding trails located amid the rugged terrain offering scintillating views of the lake. Two all time favorite trails include the Big Meadow to Pacific Crest Trail and the Tahoe Rim Trail.
Tahoe Rim Trail
The challenging single track winding through pine forested slopes with dips and rises tests your biking skills. The exercise is strenuous and you can choose the 16.2 loop or the 8.6 loop.
Big Meadow to Pacific Crest Trail
Passing through Round Lake and dead-ends at the Pacific Crest Trail, this trails mostly winds through meadows and the lake and strange volcanic rocks, in the glacier basin.
Hiking
The 165- mile Tahoe Rim Trail traverses the major peaks of the ridgeline of Lake Tahoe and offers magnificent views of the lake and the surroundings. The trail is accessible to casual kickers to hard-core backpackers. The trail is ablaze with wild flowers in mid-July, while in September and October it is covered by fall foliage.
