    Castillo de San Marcos
St. Augustine, which was established by Spanish soldiers under Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles way back in 1565, has a marvelous collection of historic buildings and some of these structures date back to as early as the 1500s. The most prominent of these is Castillo de San Marcos. Constructed between 1672 until 1695, it served as an outpost of the Spanish Empire. Built with coquina, a native shell stone of the region, the fort guarded St. Augustine, which was the first permanent European settlement in the United States and protected the sea route to Spain. Currently, Castillo de San Marcos is patronized by the National Park Service and has been under its care since 1993. The fort is open to the public daily, with the exception of Christmas Day.

    The Lightner Museum
The Lightner Museum is a great way to spend some in door time, viewing a priceless collection of artifacts from the 19th century. The museum displays the relics of America’s Gilded Age on three floors. On display are costumes and furnishings, mechanical musical instruments, and other works of art, which give us an insight on the 19th Century daily life in America. Also on exhibit are several exemplary examples of cut glass, Victorian art glass and the stained glass works of Louis Comfort Tiffany.

The Lightner museum is open daily between 9 AM and 5 PM. Children (under the age of 12) are admitted free, when accompanied by an adult. The Lightner Museum also offers group and Military discounts.

    Potter's Wax Museum
You can also visit the Potter's Wax Museum – “the first wax museum founded in the US.” Featuring more than 170 past and present famous movie stars, religious leaders, kings and presidents, explorers and more of famous personalities, Potter’s Wax Museum has received worldwide acclaim for its authenticity and exceptional costuming displayed.

    Fort Matanzas
A boat ride to the historic Fort Matanzas is an added attraction. A well-preserved masonry watchtower fort, Fort Matanzas was built by the Spanish around 1740 – 1742. The Fort had an important role in protecting St. Augustine, as it provided them with a strategic point to observe the coming and goings of enemy vessels and provided them with due warnings from potential enemy advancements from the south via the Matanzas River.

    World Golf Hall of Fame
If you are a golf enthusiast, the World Golf Hall of Fame may be worth a visit. This 75,000 square foot building has exhibits and memorabilia, marking famous golf moments and honoring well-known golfers and contributors to the game. The facility is a combined effort of 26 major national and international golf associations.

    Marineland
Marineland, the world's first oceanarium, is only about a 10-minute drive from St. Augustine. With a more contemporary atmosphere, Marineland offers its guest opportunities to interact with the animals on a more intimate level with its interactive programs. Participate in its marine research programs and educational modules to understand the ocean’s fragile ecosystems.

    Guana River State Park
Mid-way between here and Jacksonville is the 2400-acre Guana River State Park. Located on a barrier island, the park protects the entire cross-section of this interesting habitat — the Atlantic Ocean beach, sand dunes, coastal scrub, estuarine river with salt marshes and tidal creeks, maritime hardwoods, freshwater marshes, flat woods, and shell mound forests—an ecosystem so vast and unique that you can spend many weeks observing and enjoying the animal and birdlife here.
