Another golf course that you can access is St. James Bay Golf, which has 18-holes and is open daily to the public. Fine dining, especially fabulously fresh local seafood, is readily available on the island. The waters here are renowned for producing the sweetest oysters and plumpest shrimp. Several restaurants are located on St. George Island or in nearby Apalachicola. A few of these include the Apalachicola Seafood Grill & Steakhouse, which is known for serving “the world's largest fried fish sandwich.” The Blue Parrot Oceanfront Café offers a large deck and the only Tiki bar on the beach. Alternatively, try Tamara’s Café Flordita, for dining with a Venezuelan flavor. You’ll need to make reservations for the café’s Wednesday evening Tapas, which begin at 4 PM.
Pubs, sports bars and nightclubs offer live musical entertainment, along with billiards, darts and big-screen televised sports. Finni's Bayside Grill and Sports Bar offers 12 TV's, including a 52-inch wide-screen. The Owl Café, also known for its excellent dining, now has a bar upstairs called “The Night Owl,” which is noted for its ambiance.
If the bar scene is not your thing, return to the days of the hometown picture show at the Dixie Theatre, with its restored antique ticket booth. The theatre presents contemporary movies, live performances and theatrical productions. Movie times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 PM. Tickets for movies are $6 each. Live performances take place on Friday and Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 3 PM and the tickets are $25 each. Jazz Fest tickets are $20 each. |
