St. Petersburg's 500-feet Gulf-front municipal beach on Treasure Island, which is certified annually as an exceptional environment-friendly “Blue Wave” beach by the National Clean Beaches Council, offers a pristine white stretch of coastal sands. The beach offers unprecedented opportunities for simply lazing around and rocking some tan, collecting shells or enjoying leisurely strolls.
St. Petersburg Pier has a beautiful waterfront throbbing with shopping, restaurants and enthralling views. Renting bikes or surrey bicycles is a good way to go around. There’s fishing off the seawall and boat rentals or sunset cruises too. There’s Pier Aquarium for a rainy day or a quiet afternoon.

| Water Sports |
St. Petersburg is a heaven for water sports enthusiasts, be it sailing, recreational boating, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming. You can enjoy recreational boating to the hilt here and you can get electric boat rentals at Electric marina.
St. Petersburg offers 9 swimming pools and avid swimmers will love the Olympic-sized North Shore Pool. The pool manages two nationally acknowledged programs, which are swim team training and one of the nation’s largest Masters Swim Clubs. The pool’s club hosts several competitive events and “training in the tropics” is also conducted for college swim teams in winters. |

| Sailing |
Competitors from world-over head to the downtown waterfront at St. Petersburg, for practicing their skills for Olympic sailing events, which happens to be the site for Olympic Regatta Training programs. Avid sailors will never be bereft of choices here - the city also hosts mid-winter regattas for several sailing classes including the Lightning, Thistle, Sonar, International 14, and Flying Dutchman.
What’s more, even those who are keen on learning sailing can come to the area's oldest and largest sailing school, Annapolis Sailing School, which is located near Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg. |
| |
| Fishing |
| St. Petersburg provides enough opportunities to keen anglers, with bountiful Gulf waters offering a wealth of kingfish, king mackerel, tarpon, marlin, grouper, snook, tuna and sailfish. For those who can’t do without Tarpon, the Tarpon season runs from mid May through July, which even sees some tournaments for the serious anglers. Various boat ramps are there, which give access to the waters of Gulf and inland. A plenty of party boats and private charters are readily available. |

| Running, Jogging, Biking and Hiking |
Walking trails and parks are populated with running, jogging, biking and hiking enthusiasts all round the year.
To experience an exclusive view of the area and the sheer thrill of bicycling, a ride on Fred E Marquis Pinellas Trail is a must, which is a Rails-to-Trails bicycle-pedestrian path that runs for 45 miles from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg. Florida's “cycling season” runs from September through April or May, owing to cooler temperatures, where in you can see hordes of cyclists on each weekend.
Suncoast Runners Club sponsors weekly events for the novice to the professional, as the running and jogging are as popular for recreation and fitness here as it is for competition. Suncoast Cycling Club also sponsors “Tour of Pinellas” each year. St. Petersburg Bike Club also organizes rides and competitions on a regular basis. |
