Fishing
Fishing is definitely one of the most favorite pastimes for many and the ski town of Telluride lives up to any keen angler’s expectations with its innumerable alpine creeks, mountain lakes, streams and rivers. The San Miguel River is home to an abundance of rainbow, brown trout, brookies and cutthroats. This particular river is accessible year round and is perfect training ground for the beginners; however the experienced anglers need not be disappointed as the river offers a variety of challenging situations. The Gunnison River is a gold medal fishery, which has a large number of rainbows and browns. You would need to apply for a special regulation called the BLM regulations, which is obtainable at the Telluride Angler. The Dolores River like the San Miguel is the freestone stream and here you can fish for cutthroats, browns and rainbows. The river does pose a challenge to even the most skilled angler.

Hiking
While skiing is reserved for winters, during the summer months you can explore the town through a leisurely walk or a strenuous hike through its mysterious mountain roads and woodlands. Breathtakingly beautiful, the 325 acre Bear Creek Canyon area of cascading waterfalls and stunning scenery beckons you to explore through the 2.5 mile hike. The hike starts from the south end of Pine Street and ranges from easy to moderate level of difficulty. The other spectacular trail is the Bridal Veil Falls, which is 2.2 miles one way to the top of the falls and will come in the moderate to difficult range. Despite its difficulty range, this hike is worth it as you pass by privately owned historic buildings that lead you to the top of the falls from where the scenery is absolutely fabulous. Treating you to the extensive scenic views of the San Juan range is the Woods Lake Distance hike, which is 4 miles in length and the challenging level ranges from moderate to difficult. Lake Hope Distance, a 6 mile round trip hike is of moderate level and offers you a spectacular view of the wildflowers if you cover this trail in the month of August.
