Most rentals charge an advance security deposit. While linen and towels are included in the rent, you have to pay an additional cleaning fee, the amount of which is dependent on the duration of your stay. A minimum stay period is required, though it varies from rental to rental. Most units are not smoke friendly and you would need to check with the individual vacation rental owner if you intend to take your pet along.

 Dining and Nightlife in Wellfleet

The numerous restaurants and eateries in Wellfleet make dining a pleasurable experience. The Beachcomber is a casual waterfront restaurant and bar that offers a satisfying dining experience complimented with the magnificent view of the Cape Cod Bay. The menu includes everything from nachos, Buffalo wings, burgers and salads, to fried or grilled fresh daily seafood specials. The evening sees the restaurant in a party mood as there is live entertainment that features local, regional and national bands. The Sweet Seasons Restaurant, the winner of the ‘Best Fine Dining Awards,’ offers pleasant dining overlooking a rush-bordered duck pond. The Wicked Oyster is open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. The restaurant’s specialty is freshly baked bread accompanied by a head of roasted garlic.  Moby Dick’s is another restaurant worth checking out, as they are known for fresh cape lobsters and Cape Cod clambakes, broiled and fried seafood, mussels, steamers, burgers and clam chowder.

If an evening out on the town suits your fancy, then try the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre (WHAT). WHAT is a nationally known professional theater company located on Mayo Beach next to the Town Pier. With a 90-seat auditorium and plays ranging from modern comedies to literary classics, WHAT is an exciting theater experience. Curtain times are 8 PM for scheduled evening performances and 5 PM or 8 PM for select Saturday performances. WHAT for Kids offers performances designed for the younger crowd during the summer months. These performances begin at 7:30 PM.  General admission is $27 for adults and $12 for students with a valid ID, but only on a stand by basis. Children’s shows are $9.

You can also enjoy great double features every night starting at the last of an American dying breed---the drive-in theatre. The Wellfleet Drive-In Theatre, built in 1957, features a 100' x 44' screen and a great FM stereo sound system that plays modern sound tracks. No radio? Try the drive-in’s original mono speakers. In case the kids get restless or hungry, the drive-in offers a playground and a snack bar. The drive-in is open from late April through early October. The box office opens at 6:45 PM daily and shows continue, rain or shine. Entry is $7.50 for adults ages 12-61, $4.50 for seniors 62 and above and children ages 5-11. Children age 4 and under get in free.

 Shopping in Wellfleet

A former whaling port that is now a modern fishing village, Wellfleet is a charming community full of art galleries, bookstores and boutiques where you can find plenty of souvenirs and mementos of your trip to Cape Cod. Visit the Kendall Art Gallery /Wellfleet Frame Shop for contemporary art, sculpture and framing. To get a good bargain on antiques and arts and crafts visit the Wellfleet Flea Market. The flea market is open Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays during the months of July and August, from 8 AM – 3 PM. Admission to the flea market ranges from $1 - $3 per carload. The Cottontail Gallery is famous for Impressionist oils in the style of Monet, watercolors & sculptures.

Wellfleet Glass Works is a lampworking Studio & Gallery specializing in unique torch-fired glass jewelry. You can get a great used book selection at the Current best sellers. Eccentricity store is necessary visit for contemporary women’s clothing and antique Japanese textiles. Frances Francis design studio is a unique women’s contemporary clothing store.

 Best Times to Visit Wellfleet

Summers is the high season in Wellfleet with July and August being the busiest months. The beach weather during these months is great for outdoor activities. You can enjoy swimming even until the month of October for the Atlantic Ocean retains enough heat to make swimming a pleasant experience. May and June too are pleasant and the entire town comes alive with the vibrant colors of the flowers in bloom.  The off-season months are May, June, September, and October. During these months, you can get the rentals at great discounts. The quiet season is January through March. Apart from low rates at rentals, restaurants and shopping malls, this is the best time to explore the town in solitude away from the madding holiday crowd.

The nearest airports are Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket Memorial, New Bedford Regional, Provincetown Municipal, and the Barnstable Municipal. Regular scheduled daily flights connect from Boston to Hyannis and Boston to Provincetown. Wellfleet is located enroute from the Bourne Bridge to Provincetown, on U.S. 6 at Exit 9.
